Australia Trend Reports August 2018
TREND WRITE UP AUGUST 2018
Linen fabric is usually thin and breezy - but over winter the LINEN trend meant double layers and thick versions.
Each linen style usually comes with the brown wooden buttons or the tortoise swirl buttons. Linen
straight line pants are everywhere as are a-line button down dresses. Aussie girls wore oversize linen button
down shirts with their knee high boots and even though it is winter the colours still come through in beige,
khaki and whites.
Orange mustard is the new black. It does not stop at mustard orange, there is also mustard yellow and mustard
reds too! Sweaters. dresses, and tops were all seen as categories in most retailers and the entrance
of the store. They use the orange mustard in the styling to make the outfits pop – there are no two orange
items used in one outfit. – Keeping it minimal. The orange was used in camo, linen fabrics, sweaters, knits
STRIPES AND CHECKS
Checks and tartan mixes have been here from our winter get go. In our coats, linen, paper bag waisted
pants and in our mini skirts. The checks are popular in light blazers, and oversized shirts too – Checks
always make you feel like you are headed into winter. But they are updated each year with added embroideries,
oversized cuts and new tartan mixes. The stripes are faded and not too in your face. The majority of
stripes are vertical and in the ever so popular linen fabric with brown button features.
We are seeing a new drop of camo prints come in this week but not only in the traditional khaki, but also in
the bright greens and the red/black/white camouflage print. The jackets are edgy and box cut and the pants
are puffy and a badass, tomboy style. This trend is not for the feminine faint hearted, they are bright, rough
and bulky. Styled with crops and bodysuits – the edgy cuts can be seen styled with heels, combat boots or
sleek sock boots.
